So what tips can you glean from the almost inimitable Veronika Heilbrunner - one half of fashion's most forward couple with MyTheresa's Director Justin O'Shea? To keep it fun, for one. Veronika and Justin are slick, sure; but they're also as quirky as they are sexy (quexy?) It's no surprise that they pretty much ride the bi-annual fashion week carnival hand firmly in hand.
Veronika - previously also at ace e-boutique MyTheresa and now Style Director at German Harper's Bazaar - has the kind of style that has the streetstyle massif drooling: minimal make-up, mussed-up hair and and super feminine catwalk 'it' pieces (we image it's a bonus having the MyTheresa wardrobe at your disposal) paired with masculine streetwear pieces like trainers and sweaters. This isn't a girl that hangs off the trends, though; she's very much dancing to her own tune. So dance to YOUR own tune, too! Dance, dance and read the lastest instalment inThe Debrief Dissects series while you do.
1. Safety first
There's no doubt about it, all-black is the safe zone. Key details stop this from looking dull, though. Beachy hair cancels out any severity, whilst a tangle of necklaces and the ankle-bashing trouser length (revealing signature schoolgirl DMs) nudges this look over to the grudge rather than the polished minimalism side. That's our kinda take on all-black, for sure.
2. Messy hair don't care
It seems an obvious solution, but how to get pretty pretty fitted ladylike dresses from looking too Kate Middleton? Add a messy half ponytail, the aforementioned neck charms and opt for chunky booties over strappy gem-strewn sandals. I mean, Veronika never looks anything other than badass, but those accoutrements will help you get another wear out of that sober blue dress you bought for a wedding but actually looks best when it gets to ride downtown.
3. Polo plus pinstripes
Veronika's slim torso helps, but a thin cotton poloneck is such a sexy way to balance out a masculine bottom half. Loose-fit pinstripe trousers are balanced perfectly by the snow-white prep school upper half. The slightly geeky forelocks and mysterious box clutch also add some funk.
4. Just do it
Everyone's doing it now, sure, but we're pretty sure Veronika was first to marry Valentino with Nike sport socks - and those schoolgirl DMs. It's such an easy way to dress down a really smart dress and the premise remains consistent - it's a standard trick of Veronika's to take a super chic dress and make it slightly 'off' with some very proletarian socks and flats.
**5. T-t-tonal block **
It's so much cooler than colour blocking, plus tonal blocking never gets old; what with their being so many colours you can do it with - duh. Veronika's opted for green and complimented an apple green sweater with a turquouise bouclé mohair split pencil skirt. This time the requisite 'off' note comes via some camo Nikes (camo is green too!) and some lace knee-high socks. So random it's right.
6. Like night and day
All you need to do this is one fashion maverick boyfriend and one super-attenuated body. Ho hum. We're not sure how happy to play ball our other half would be if we tried to make him/her dress up in all-black embellished slickness, whilst we donned a pure white maxi dress. How about you wear it anyway - with with a middle part low bun and a tan.
