Colourful Corduroy Is Making A Comeback

And we've rounded up the best pieces to shop now

Colorful cord

by Lucy Morris |

Say what you want about corduroy, but it’s not racy. It’s actually thick and unyielding. But, that’s its appeal. Whether it’s as a response to Britain’s foul weather, or a coy attempt at irony, this rigid textile has become a by-word for sexy this season.

Who would have thought that a fabric favoured by farmers for its robust heft would make waves in the fashion? But, this spring, between the trends for sequins and sheerness, comes this academic look.

Commonly troped as the cloth of choice for the intellectual brigade, its left-leaning, bookish credentials can be varied by its varied fanbase that encompasses Jane Birkin, Jeremy Corbyn and Jonathan Byers. Think of it as velvet with brains, a highbrow denim.

Just this week Charli XCX gave the trend her seal of approval when she sported a violet cord suit, and the high street is chock-a-block with cord in a rainbow of hues.

Whether it's an emerald green dress, a blush pink suit or a baby blue bucket bag, these are our favorite cord pieces to shop now.
