A 75th birthday is a huge milestone to celebrate, and US label Coach are doing so in style with an auction of the brand’s most iconic vintage designs.
Fashion fans will be able to bid on 48 one-of-a-kind vintage bags in the online auction, which launched this afternoon, with the first $50,000 in sales benefitting the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (the home of the Met Gala).
The 48 lots have been divided into three categories which celebrate different aspects of the brand’s heritage. 11 pieces celebrate Coach’s A-list friends and inspirations; 26 bags are styles from the archive (including iconic silhouettes like the Duffle, the Saddle and the Dinky) that have been re-imagined by creative director Stuart Vevers, while the final eleven pieces have been paired with the items that inspired theme. Some of the lots also include one-off fashion experiences, like the chance to attend a Coach runway show at New York Fashion Week, or have a new bag named after you.
Amongst the 11 pieces dedicated to Coach’s muses are styles inspired by the likes of Chloe Moretz, Lena Dunham and Kate Bosworth. Each bag is a sartorial nod to the personality and individual style of each star, accompanied by a signed tag.
‘This was a very personal project for me,’ said Vevers. ‘Many who gave their time and love to it are friends we’ve collaborated with since I joined coach, so it felt like family.’
‘I am so happy to be able to support the cause of fashion scholarship and preservation by celebrating Coach’s own heritage and craft with these inventive, unique pieces.’
The auction will run here from today until October 28 at 5pm (EST).
