We, over here at The Debrief, want to get something off our chests, the general election is weeks away, and it is of the utmost importance that everyone votes. Not to sound cheesy or like a broken record, but the future is in our hands. Though fashion regularly gets called frivolous, it’s a form of self-expression, so broadcast your opinion and say it loud with a slogan t-shirt. We’ve teamed up with LFW up-and-comer Clio Peppiatt to create limited edition political slogan t-shirts, which you can get your hands on here. It’s a simple tee that makes a big statement. Here’s how we wear ours…

The Panther skirt is part of my Spring Summer collection, I like the contrast of the traditional shape with the bold colours and panther motif. Clashing quite traditionally feminine silhouettes with striking, and perhaps more traditionally ‘masculine’ imagery is something I explore in my work a lot. I also decided to wear one of my favourite pairs of Miu Miu shoes which I found in a Vintage shop a few months ago. I think its quite an easy way to dress up a t-shirt but still feel comfortable.

I am all about layers. I like to layer even when layering isn’t an option. Call it my way of knowing I'm ready for the day, complete with my layers. Which is why this red summer dress is the perfect layering option to go with my general election t-shirt. I’m a little obsessed with red at the moment, too, and the pink of the t-shirt combined with the pink of this D.R.E.A.M.Y denim jacket makes me feel like Cher from Clueless. And we all know she was big on voting.

Not many people know this, but the trench coat is a symbol of women’s emancipation. In the 1920s this mannish tobacco-hued waterproof became popular with the women’s liberation movement, so it seems like an apt accompaniment to my general election t-shirt. The brûlée colour and waterfall front nicely offsets the pink of the statement top in an awkward colour clash that’s on beat for this season and speaks - subtly - to the sassy feminization of this traditional menswear staple.

I love denim, who doesn't love denim? Denim shorts, jeans, dungarees, perfect to dress up or down. This particluar denim number is great for showing off slogan tees, as it's V-shaped so Clio's statement illustration shines through. I've paired this outfit with chunky sandals, so it would be perfect for a day festival, chilling at a friend's BBQ and heading to your local polling station to vote. It could also easily be dressed up with statement heels (I just can't walk in them!)

The great thing about slogan tees is that they can be dressed up or dressed down super easily - meet the casual statement outfit. Clio's top is relaxed enough for there not to be too much going on alongside my busy, swishy tiered skirt but equally, it has something important to say (in pink) so will also catch your attention. Thrown with my trusty (read: worn) ankle boots and I've got a reliable day-to-night ensemble that packs a subtle, political punch.

I think it's safe to say that I live in T-shirts, particularly Clio Peppiatt t-shirts. I love Clio's t-shirts because they're feminine, practical and, often, political. The slogan t-shirt is back and worn under an oversized longline blazer like this with paired an almost NSFW lace up skirt I feel like I've nailed the ambiguous smart casual category. I also feel like I'm ready for anything: meetings, giving a talk to a room full of strangers or disappearing into the night in my favourite shoes that I can't quite walk in.
