Ealier this year, it was announced that Clare Waight Keller was exiting Chloé after a five-year stint at the French fashion house. But it was her next career move that really surprised the industry, as she took on the role as the first ever female creative director of Givenchy.
And yesterday, the label unveiled its debut campaign under the creative direction of Keller. Photographed by Steven Meisel, the monochrome shoot features up-and-coming names including Saffron Vadher, Elias Bouremah and Megan Roche.
Titled, 'Transformation Seduction', the campaign suggests Keller has sought inspiration from predecessor Riccardo Tisci's vampy aesthetic (one which proved popular with the Kardashian family) but has also turned to the fashion house's roots.
The four portraits were for instance accompanied with a quote by Hubert de Givenchy: "She has an extraordinary flair for looking dressed with practically nothing. She knows how to look in a mirror, pose, and make whatever she is wearing chic. And since simplicity is the only thing she likes, she is always faultlessly elegant."
And the models wear nothing but lace in the debut campaign and hold nothing but cats bearing Givenchy collars.
In an official statement, Keller explained: "I love the idea of a woman with a feline air. A person might seem slightly reserved, but that have that serene, straightforward gaze, They're seductive… I wanted to play with that modern attitude and expression because I feel like it's an apt metaphor for Givenchy's current evolution."
The designer will showcase her debut spring/summer '18 collection on October 1st.
