Christopher Kane’s Croc Collaboration Is A Sight To Behold

Today, Christopher Kane announced he is collaborating with Crocs. Let that sink in.

This isn’t the first time the Scottish designer has attempted to rehabilitate this option-splitting plastic clog. Back in 2016, he sent models out wearing marbled versions of the resin moulded shoes adorned with crystallised rocks. The fashion community was split, some claimed it was the perfect accompaniment to Kane’s left-field sense of style, while others were less convinced.

From August, for £64.99 (100 quid less than Kane's) you can have a pair of classic Croc clogs that have Kane's seal of approval. They are available in four colours, each decorated with tiger print and embellished with an ostrich feather, the designer's branding and two metallic floral pins.

‘They are brilliant for summer, as they are so comfortable and cooling. That they look great is an added bonus,’ said Christopher Kane, referring to the new collection. I’ve always been a fan of the iconic Crocs Clog. I like that they are perceived by some to be quite “ugly” and not at all feminine or designed to flatter. They are designed for function, and that’s what attracted me to them.’

The ugly shoe trend shows no signs of abating. After Ugg tapped Alexa Chung to breathe new life into their marmite slip-ons, and Miuccia Prada designed glorified Tevas, it seems this is just another step in this direction.

For Crocs this a real win, they get to piggyback off of Kane’s goodwill with the style set while repositioning themselves as fashion-forward.
