Christmas Movie Premieres = An Unexpectedly Excellent Source Of 90s Style Inspo

The 90s were a great time for Christmas movies; the Home Alone franchise, The Santa Clause trilogy and the Miracle On 34th Street were all products of a very festive decade. But what does one wear to the premiere of a Christmas film, when premieres are usually in sunny LA, and December conjures up connotations of cosy jumpers and faux fur?

Take a trip down Santa Claus lane and find out.

1. Santa? I Know Him!

Ah, Tim Allen, aka Scott Calvin, aka SC, aka Disney’s The Santa Clause. He was always kind of a DILF, wasn’t he? Pictured with his then-wife at the premiere of The Santa Clause, we can’t help but dig their matching leathers and monochrome looks, while wondering just how anyone feels festive in LA when it’s still that sunny in November.

2. We Heart Little J

Before she was Gossip Girl’s ultimate rebel and the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momsen was Cindy Lou Who, heroine of Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. She was also seven years old and THIS level of 90s cute. The choker, the matching cardi and crop top… We might just have found our outfit for Christmas Eve down the pub.

3. Actually, We Love Emma Thompson More

What could be more festive than a red (faux – we hope) fur stole? How’s about teaming it with a sweeping red velvet dress AND a red carpet? Emma Thompson owned the Love Actually NYC premiere (and, let’s face it, the movie).

4. Spot The New Girl

Zooey Deschanel is clearly on the same anti-aging regime as Pharrell – she literally hasn’t aged a day since the Elf premiere. We probably wouldn’t wear a brown polka dot prom dress anymore, but we would still date Jason Schwartzman if he wasn’t all married and stuff.

5. Double Denim Dude

Pretty sure Pierce Brosnan wasn’t in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, but he did make a dashing appearance at the premiere in this outfit, which we like to think inspired Justin and Britney’s quadruple denim years later. Even his loafers are fire.

6. And Then There Was Double Trouble

What could be better than teeny tiny Macaulay Culkin? Teeny tiny Macaulay Culkin AND Kieran Culkin, wearing matching Home Alone 2 merch, that’s what! Also note the mismatched sneakers, which is something we would have spent our entire childhoods doing, if our parents weren’t so square.

7. Yes, Edward Scissorhands Is A Christmas Film

Please see the snow scene for further proof, after you marvel at this photo of Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp at the premiere, when Johnny was clearly already auditioning to play a pirate of the Caribbean.

8. Why Was There Never A Sabrina The Teenage Witch Christmas Film?

That was the first thing that sprung into our minds on seeing this photo of Melissa Joan Hart at The Grinch premiere, right before “nice turn-ups” and “oh, because Halloween is witch Christmas”.

9. Brown: The Official Colour Of The Grinch’s LA Premiere

Mr Grinch himself, Jim Carey, and his then-fiancé Renée Zellweger went fully autumnal in 50 shades of sludge.

10. Camilla Belle Knows

See? Brown. Brown on brown.
