Things have never been so good for Rihanna.
Her line Fenty Beauty was this year’s most talked-about beauty release, with consumers of all skin tones queuing to buy her Trophy Wife highlighters and Pro’Filtr Foundations. Other notable achievements include (allegedly) shacking up with billionaire Saudi prince Hassan Jamel, which we wholeheartedly applaud.
And then there's the fact that the Barbadian government have named a road after her – aptly named Rihanna (Shut Up And) Drive – to celebrate the star’s role as the nation’s most famous cultural ambassador, and it’s easy to see that Rihanna is bigger than ever. But even superstars need downtime, so it was no surprise that bad girl Riri took some time out of her busy schedule to sit and chill with a bottle of the local Banks beer – and it’s even less of a surprise that she did it in style.
Not one to carry around her beer bottle in a paper bag or in her bare hands, Riri opted to transport her Barbadian beverage in a vintage Chanel Bottle Holder from Karl Lagerfeld’s 1994 Fall Winter Collection.
The bottle holder bag has been an important but irreverent piece of fashion history ever since it was first spotted hanging from the shoulders of Claudia Schiffer at Chanel’s 1994 Fall Winter runway show. (And what a show it was, with every 90s supermodel from Naomi Campbell to Carla Bruni and Cindy Crawford gracing the stage, and one model gliding down the runaway in a perfect pair of custom made Chanel roller-skates.) Said to have cost $1500 at the time of release – that’s about $3000, or about £2230 if we factor in today’s inflation - the bottle holder is a rarity which occasionally pops up in luxury vintage stores or e-retailers. The Haus of Rihanna reports that Riri nabbed hers from vintage e-retailer What Goes Around Comes Around, and there have been some on sale on FarFetch and 1stdibs. But unfortunately for anyone who wants something fancy to hold their bottle of Champagne (or Cava), the item is sold out online.
