6 Things To Take Away From The Chanel SS16 Catwalk

Pretty much every season Chanel wows with their catwalk show. AW14 was the supermarket sweep, SS15 took the form of a feminist protest whilst AW15 was set in a restaurant. And SS16? Why, an airport, of course.

Not one to disappoint, Karl Lagerfeld turned the Grand Palais into the chicest airport you ever did see, complete with check-in desks, Chanel-clad flight attendants, branded luggage, Chanel Airlines tickets and departure boards. Talk about making a rod for your own back.

Models walked through the departure lounge showcasing the new season collection, while chosen guests like Cara Delevingne (who didn’t walk this season) along with her girlfriend, St Vincent, and Karl’s godson, took pride of place on waiting chairs.

Apart from showing us that the sky’s the limit, here’s six things we’ll be taking away from Mr Lagerfeld’s show.

1. Caps are in

chanel-caps

More specifically: caps worn backwards. No longer the reserve of Australian beach-bums, we can now all legitimately get in on the trend without feeling too douchey.

2. Socks and (flatform) sandals work

Something my old RE teacher, Mr Selman, will be thrilled to hear. Extra points if the sandals flash.

3. The new print has arrived

Forget pineapples, come spring the aeroplane print will be your go-to. Expect it on trousers, tops and jumpers. Expect it everywhere.

4. Superhero make-up is a thing

Think *The Incredibles-*style superhero masks, but in blue. Props if you go the whole hog, but understandable if you go for the slightly-less-daunting blue mascara and eyeliner instead.

5. Big, bright shades work

Aviator style, no less and with brightly-coloured polarised lenses. These will be 2016’s answer to Kanye shutter shades, circa 2008. Probably.

6. Silver statements

Whether it’s shoes, (slightly questionable) fingerless gloves or preppy headbands, they all had one thing in common: silver.
