"I love wasting time," seems like the last thing you’d expect an Oscar nominee and mother of a young daughter to make. But it’s this surprising admission that Keira Knightley makes in Chanel’s latest campaign video series.
The campaign is in honour of the new J12 watch. The fashion house's iconic timepiece – as elegant as a 2.55 bag or little black jacket, inspired by automobiles and sailing – is nearly 20 years old. This year, the watch has been given a makeover by Arnaud Chastaingt, director of the Chanel Watch Creation Studio, with new details that remain true to the classic and maintain the integrity of the design.
To celebrate the release of the new J12 and in tune with the tagline, It’s All About Seconds, Chanel called on nine long-term friends of the house including Knightley (who has been the face of Coco Mademoiselle for over a decade, and wore Chanel to her wedding in 2013), Lily-Rose Depp and Naomi Campbell to discuss their own relationship with time. The women discuss their favourite moments of the day, the curious rhythm of passing time and the pivotal moments of their lives and days.
"I think everything in my professional life is a decisive moment," reveals Knightley. "Every job that I take or don’t take is a decisive moment." Those jobs might be box-office gold, but other moments of her day are revealingly down to earth. "Where am I going on holiday? That’s a decisive moment," she smiles.
When it comes to her favourite moment of the day, Knightley says it's 7:30pm, "because I've just managed to get my daughter to sleep."
And what does Keira think is timeless? ‘Love, love is timeless’.
