The fashion industry isn’t short of opportunities to dress-up, yet the CFDA Fashion Awards, which took place last night in New York, is an exceptional event. More industry than the Met Gala, less celebrity than the Oscars, it’s a fashion feast complete with delicious, directional gowns and exceptional people. Of all the guests - including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kendall Jenner and Naomi Campbell no less - at the Brooklyn Museum there was one twosome that stood out.
Coupling up on the red carpet has become the de facto way to make celebrity relationships official (see: Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer at the Fashion Awards) and Brother Vellies founder Aurora James has not been shy about making her friendship with ex-Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth known. Though James accompanied Solange (no less) to the most recent Met Gala, it’s Welteroth that’s always been her main hang.

Both this year and last the pair walked the CFDA carpet together and in our humble opinion stole the spotlight both times. At last night's gala, the couple co-ordinated in seashell white dresses with matching braids and accessories by James' sustainable hand-fashioned shoes and handbag line. Likewise, at the 2017 event, the best-friends walked the carpet together in Brother Vellies. For last year's event, the two chose a lilac colour-story teamed with the label's signature calf-grazing boots.

Sure, Elaine and Aurora won our best-dressed award for the evening, but they weren’t the only winners. Raf Simons of Calvin Klein walked away with the Womenswear Designer of the year award, while James Jebbia of Supreme was awarded the Menswear title and Accessories Designer of the year. Diane von Furstenberg was recognized with the Swarovski Award for Postive Change, Ralph Lauren was given a Member’s Salute, Kim Kardashian West took home the influencer Award and Naomi Campbell was named Fashion Icon.
