For all the glitz and the glamour, Couture Fashion Week is actually quite a cerebral event. Though designers use it at an excuse to let their blue sky thinking loose, creating gowns that take hundreds of hours to sew and worth unfathomable amounts, the week-long affair has become a marketing exercise for most. It’s an opportunity for brands to drum up headlines and catch traffic that hopefully translates into perfume and accessory sales (AKA their real money making arenas). But then Celine Dion turned up and changed the game.
Dion, who is currently undergoing a reinvention of sorts, has taken Paris by storm. She’s been twirling through the week, sitting front row at shows and looking like she’s having a whale of a time.
Her attitude has been contagious, for instance: where Anna Wintour is usually stony-faced on the front row, but now that she has Dion as a bench buddy she’s been pictured grinning from ear-to-ear.
Being the star that she is, Dion knows a thing or two about picking an unforgettable gown. Remember her Stéphane Rolland, white puff-shouldered plunging dress at the Billboard Awards? This past week, with the help of her stylist Law Roach, the songstress has been pulling out look, after look, after look.
Starting the week in a cobalt blue tracksuit by Off-White, she's also sported demi-couture Giambattista Valli, a mustard leather Dior dress and head-to-toe Balmain. No wonder she’s inspired the hashtag #celinetakescouture.
But, it’s not just the non-stop full-throttle fashion that’s won her attention, it’s been her attitude too. When asked, she’s stopped for selfies and signed autographs. She’s had fun with the posing, by pouting and swirling and laughing with the paparazzi. She’s even draped herself across cars and kneeled down to get the perfect shot. Dion has gone above and beyond, and our hearts will always go on for her PFW moment.
