When accepting an Outstanding Achievement award, you’re basically the guest of honour. But it always helps to have a little support. And that definitely stands when you’re the legendary Giorgio Armani.
Giorgio is the recipient of the prestigious prize at this year’s British Fashion Awards, held at the Royal Albert Hall by the British Fashion Council. Naturally, he was in attendance, but he wasn’t alone. He was joined at the event by a very stylish army of supporters, led by Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts.
The Australian actress - a two-time Oscar winner - walked the red carpet ahead of the event, alongside fellow acting legend Lauren Hutton, and his niece, Roberta Armani. Julia joined to pose with Giorgio soon after.
Cate is an Armani staple. Not only is she the face of Si, the brand’s divine fragrance. She is also their global beauty ambassador, and has worn Armani at many red carpet events.
Speaking earlier this year, Cate explained her attraction to Armani, she said:
‘Being the so-called “face” of this fragrance — I think I’d prefer to say “the spirit” of this fragrance. So being this Sì “spirit” is all about creating an atmosphere in which I can inhabit myriad states. Being a Sì woman isn’t a static thing — it’s full of flow: joy, apprehension, excitement, desire, risk and frivolity. And love, bien sûr!’
Giorgio’s honour is a long time coming. The Italian style king set up the company in 1975, and is now known as, arguably, the most successful Italian designer of our time.
He is one of several legends being honoured. British supermodel Naomi Campbell will be picking up the Icon Award, at the country's biggest night in fashion.
