Bonjour! Carine Roitfeld for Uniqlo is here and this is your first, full, exclusive look at it.
Over a year ago Carine prepared to add yet another string to her fashionable bow when Uniqlo approached her to collaborate on a collection. Whilst she may lend her expert eye and styling mastery to many a designer’s catwalk or campaign, this is the first time the editrix extraordinaire has ever embarked on a project where items will bear her revered name. Throw the high street element into the mix and suffice to say the fashion concious were A.) surprised and B.) thrilled.
It’s all part of Roifeld’s plan to grow her global personal brand. But back to the here and now. This punked up offering from the Japanese giant and the French sexpot is just as moody and open to unique wardrobe interpretation as you’d hope for. Design director Naoki Takizawa started travelling back and forth from Japan to France in order to solidify every minute detail that makes this large range speak the same sartorial language as the recognisable figurehead: from the fishnets that are used in every lookbook image (where model Lexi Boling's similarity to the stylish woman in question is undeniable) and monogrammed with CR, through to the first ever faux fur the company has produced. No Roitfeld nuance was left out in the cold for this debut: every shoulder seam, hem-length and print has been analysed until she agreed upon absolute perfection.
From camo and leopard to faux leather and fantastic menswear-inspired suiting, Carine’s high street adventure runs the gamut between ingénue and tomboy, pussycat and power player. What will you rush to stores for on 29 Oct?
