Burberry’s New Christmas Campaign Is The Most Star-Studded Yet

Burberry's Christmas campaigns are typically a star-studded affair, but this winter's advert is possibly the heritage brand's best effort yet, bringing together actors Domhnall Gleeson, Sienna Miller, Lily James and Dominic West to tell 'The Tale of Thomas Burberry.'

The three minute clip was directed by Asif Kapadia, who won an Oscar for his documentary Amy earlier this year, and sees Domhnall Gleeson star as the label's founder Thomas Burberry. Taking key moments from Burberry's storied past, the trailer re-imagines Thomas's discovery of the waterproof fabric, gabardine, and touches upon the label's history of dressing adventurers, explorers and the military.

The Star Wars actor is joined by Sienna Miller, who plays the fictionalised first love of Thomas Burberry, Dominic West as the explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton (who wore Burberry on numerous trips to the Antarctic) and Lily James as airwoman Betty Dawson, a character inspired by real-life pilot Betty Kirby-Green, who broke the world record for a return flight from England to Cape Town in 1937, flying a plane named 'The Burberry.' This marks a second Burberry campaign for the Downton star, who was unveiled as the face of the My Burberry Black fragrance this summer.

The cast wore a mixture of custom-made pieces, replicas of styles from the brand's Heritage Archive and designs from the current collection, including the Heritage Trench Coat and Bridle Bag.

and the man behind the iconic trench coat – in our own words,' said Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer. 'The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and

extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of

the twentieth century in all its tumultuous highs and lows.'
