Thanks to instantly iconic looks served up by creative director Christopher Bailey and a slew of A-listers clamouring for a spot on the front row, Brit super-brand Burberry is always one of the biggest talking points of London Fashion Week. Our fashion director Rebecca Lowthorpe breaks down the talking points for A/W'16...
1) Burberry is changing the fashion industry as we know it
Burberry is the British megabrand that prompted an eruption at the heart of the fashion system when CEO and Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey announced earlier this month that it would present a show of ‘see now buy now’ clothes. As opposed to the normal state of play, waiting approximately four months for the clothes to drop into stores, you, the customer can snap up today’s Burberry collection up right now. Ingenious? Or simply too much fashion, too fast? You, the fashion buying public will decide.
2) It's all about the outerwear
So what of the instant pleasures? The coats! Great in navy, military inspired and with red top-stitching and big golden buttons, alongside those in rich checked mohair, were some of the best so far at LFW. They were worn with shimmering lurex or sequin shifts beneath, black lacy tights and heavy tyre-tread boots patchworked in snakeskin.
3) The new collection is a wintery wonderland
Jake Bugg sang live, a mournful tune that fit the wintery tone of the collection in rich shades and silvered jacquards that looked as if they had been frosted. The ‘buy now’ ethos had certainly impacted the design throughout - almost everything was stitched with a huge dose of reality. The star piece? A big, tough shearling jacket with an enormous cosy cream collar. Well, what are you waiting for?
