Next year is all about the fashion retrospective – from Princess Diana’s style to Five Centuries of Fashion at Chatsworth. There’s nothing quite like delving deeper into the creative minds of our favourite designers, seeing up close and personal outfits admired on the catwalk and celebrating the women that wore them.

But a new digital platform, g.co/britishfashion, is very much looking to the future and tech for inspiration. The British Fashion Council (BFC) and Google have joined together to celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of British fashion in a series free videos, VR experiences and ‘specially curated digital exhibits through innovate and immersive digital experiences'

‘The internet has been an incredible resource for opening up the fashion industry to a new audience, giving young people access to information not previously available. This collaboration represents a new step, bringing together diverse information into one, engaging place,’ Caroline Rush CBE, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council said. ‘We hope this legacy project will not only inspire but also educate – allowing young people wanting to get into fashion to see the breadth of individuals, skills and careers that make up this multifaceted industry.’

‘British Fashion has such a unique and revered place within the international fashion industry, and is hugely rich in content, characters, icons and stories,’ added Amit Sood, Director of Google’s Cultural Institute. ‘It’s been a joy to work on this project and bring its distinct textures and tales to life through technology - so that now even more people around the world can enjoy it.’

Highlights from the digital collection include a 360 video of Alexander McQueen’s top couture dresses, a behind-the-scenes workshop with Monolo Blahnik at his London atelier and curated exhibits from top designers and industry experts from Vivienne Westwood, Erdem to Naomi Campbell.
