We already knew via previous subjects of Debrief Dissects such as Alba Galocha and Berta Bernad, that Spanish girls have got it going on. There’s something about their grunge-with-a-hippie flare thing that they do so well, that makes us realise that it’s not just the British girls that know a good pair of DMs when they see them.

This week we investigate the style of Dans Vogue blogger, Saray Martin. With a penchant for round retro sunglasses, chunky footwear and her fellow Spaniards’ style – ‘I love Alba Galocha!’ she patriotically tells The Debrief – she’s our new sartorial guilty pleasure; most notably because she loves Primark denim as much as she does vintage Chanel. Fact.

Here’s what you can learn from her style:

A skirt like a vintage curtain does not have to be dowdy

A cropped shirt and chunky sandals lends the spirit of Zara-led normcore to a pouffy paisley skirt which is actually vintage Chanel and is quirky without being dowdy. ‘I like to visit vintage shops in Barcelona, like Über Barcelona, Heritage and Le Swing,’ Saray explains. ‘There are so many treasures to be found in vintage shops.’This is Saray’s modus operandi: quirky but addictively wearable. Try this guy, as the silhouette’s a little easier to pull off.

Well hello, if it isn’t the baker boy hat

First time round, we really weren’t sure about the baker boy (some of us might have opted for one in baby pink corduroy....) but, just like Scandi blogger Pernille, Saray shows that a navy blue one can be cute. ‘I love hats, especially in winter!’ Saray enthuses. Keep the rest of your outfit simple but unexpected – long velvet coat? Um, HELLO – and the baker boy might just work.

Try a ravey sweater with an all black 'fit

Black jeans, DMs, Chanel bag – all classic chicified grunge, sure. ‘My style icon is Audrey Hepburn,’ she says, which explains the shades of black… But then this random yet cool sweater from super cheap US brand Sheinside changes the tone completley. Throw an outré top half into an otherwise low-key ensemble for quick-’n’-easy errand running with a twist. (And when we say errand running, we mean going to the pub.)

Discover dunagrees that won’t make you feel like a toddler

‘I love Topshop, & Other Stories and Zara,’ Saray explains. But she’s also a big fan of Spanish brand Oysho – who are responsible for these Birkenstock-esque gold sandals that Saray has been repeat-wearing this summer. She’s also nailed the way to wear dungarees without looking like a cute toddler – in black, with a stripey tee underneath. Try some in long-length so that they will work going into Autumn, too.

Get stuck into the retro accessories

Rarely seen without a pair of round sunglasses – often on a dad-style gold chain – Saray prefers vintage accessories. ‘I have many different accessories that I bought on eBay and vintage stores, like ’70s glasses and headgear!’ Meanwhile, all we want to do is pair an oversized vintage Levi’s denim jacket with some printed palazzo pants. Saray even makes ballet pumps look cool, 4godssake.

Fifty Shades of Grey doesn’t have to be dull

The grey T-shirt dress from COS – ‘I’m really into basic tees and T-shirts,’ says Saray – and structured tote from Zara could be kind dull, but not with curly hair, some wild sunglasses and chunky platforms. This is the easiest thing you can wear in the sun – so do it before the summer finishes!
