It's a Changing Room Selfies takeover...

Even though payday still seems like an age away, if you’re going to have a moment of weakness, then you might as well spend it on knitwear. It’s cosy, practical and allows you to balance out all of those tricky trends that you’re not sure about. Since I have a degree in the subject (yes there is such a thing) and I know my cables from my crochet, it only seemed right to check out Topshop’s new spring stuff and help you find what to wear.

As a reformed Topshop addict, I’m not gonna lie, it was a pretty overwhelming experience. It’s a good thing I left my purse at home. Here's what to wear when it comes to knitwear.

**The Crop For All Your High-Waisted Needs
**

Cropped knit, £26, skirt, £55, boots, £85

Does anyone else struggle to find the perfect cropped knit? It’s a frequent fashion-blogger problem, often solved by tucking things in and having to check every so often that the effect is more street style than weird-tummy-bulge. This is a lovely fine ribbed viscose/wool knit that should hit your waist at the right point. As for what to wear with it - try teaming with a fuller silhouette on the bottom half.

The Pastel Number That’s Perfect With Leopard

Jumper, £36, boots, £68, skirt, £38

If you crossed a bag of candyfloss with some knitting needles, then you’d probably end up with this jumper. It’s chunky, ribbed and boasts some lovely fashioning marks, which add a contoured effect. I’ve channelled my inner Eastenders barmaid with a leopard print mini and suede thigh high boots.

The Sunshine Sweater
To Brighten Up Your Jan Blues

Jumper, £40, jeans, £42

Everyone needs a yellow jumper in their lives. If it’s dull and raining outside, stick it on to lift your mood and make everything better again. This one is extra-special as it has a 3D stitch, which gives everything a wavy effect. Almost like magic eye without making your eyes hurt.

The Double Knit Mix
, Cos Knitwear Rules**

Merino jumper, £80, skirt, £36

I’m so glad that knitted skirts are a thing now - you can eat as much as you like and not need to unzip anything. For a sporty look, pair this retro geo-texture with a minimal sweat style. I ventured up to the Boutique section to find this boiled wool number with piping details. This should last you for ages if you follow the washing instructions.

The 70s Throwback
 To Boss This Season

Cable knit jumper, £65, jeans, £40

This cornflower blue cable knit reminds me of something Miu Miu did for Autumn and it only seems right to get some flares involved. There is probably a 70s knitting pattern for this floating around somewhere but ain’t nobody got time for that. Wear this to death until April and swap for some crochet.

The Cape That Actually Lets Your Arms Function**

Poncho, £35, skirt, £48, fine knit, £36

I know I need to move on, but I’m still gutted that the £800 monogrammed Burberry poncho was out of my price range. Fortunately there’s always the high street and the chance for more of a stealth approach to the trend. I’ve gone for grey as it’s a versatile colour and the flash of orange is a nice touch. Layer it up until Spring arrives.
