Bip Ling is a fashion blogger who’s won over a legion of fans and even more party invites thanks to her quirky, gif-filled blog. Now the face of Uggs and the star of her very own so-catchy-we’re-singing-it-on-nights-out theme song, Bipping, we caught up with the Saint Martin's fashion graduate as she hosted an event at Calzedonia to promote their new denim leggings (NOT jeggings) range. She was customising hers with little eyes and fuzzy hair bits, just FYI.

The Debrief: Do you ever get cold feet if you’re wearing anything particularly quirky?

Bip Ling: Sometimes. I’ve got my Calzedonia socks in my handbag. I’m obsessed with socks.

DB: What makes a good sock?

Cool patterns. Colours. I’m addicted to colours. I’ve always got socks in my bag.

DB: Even in the summer?

Yeah! I love socks.

DB: Are you going to do socks and flip-flops?

Yeah! I do slides, I like socks with slides, like neon socks. That’s how I rock them for summer.

DB: What's your Getting Ready routine?

I visualise what I wear, as in even making a blog post of the colours and the composition. I kind of see it as a piece of art work, what I’m wearing. But I literally don’t think about it – I get changed in 10 minutes. I empty my wardrobe, tip it upside down, then put stuff on.

DB: Did you have a favorite fashion show this year?

I just flew to Milan for the Fendi show. That was unbelievable. I think Chanel was incredible, Louis Vuitton is amazing.

DB: Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?

You know what? Never say never. I think if you’ve got good style and good taste you can make anything look cool!

DB: You’re customising some leggings right now, do you customise a lot of your clothes?

I like to cut T-shirts and make new crop tops with big guys’ hoodies, sticking things on, painting stuff.

DB: What’re your favorite trends right now?

Ummm trends, trends, trends… Actually, I don’t really follow trends. I just do what I want.

DB: What was the decision behind the video for Bipping and the idea for that?

Well, it took me about a year to finalise writing it, and I wanted different producers to kind of get the right sounds. I spend most of my time searching new music and making playlists on my blog, and getting new music to DJ. So, I wanted to make my own track. I had all these ideas, I had to do it or my head would have exploded!

DB: How did the lyrics come about?

I actually wrote the chorus, ‘She’s cool, she’s hip, she’s Bip, the funky chip, the saucy dip,’ when I was 12. Kind of taking the mick out of my name. And then Moochi is the name of my cartoon character.

DB: So you kind of owned it? Do you get criticism for what you wear, too?

Yeah, well I mean I think just do what you want and wear what you want, whatever people say.

DB: There’s a lyric in the song, ‘What would I do without blogging?’ What would you do? What do you do in your spare time?

Exactly, how could I love without blogging? I think it’s just a way of life. I mean, for years girls have used sketch books to keep photos in, it’s a very old fashioned thing to do, like keeping a diary. Now it’s with technology and on the internet. It’s my release. It’s my way of sharing.
