Here at Grazia, we always try to be bold and brave – especially with our fashion. Which is why our three Big Fashion Issue cover stars - Halima Aden, Lauren Hutton and Hilary Rhoda – are some of the most influential women in fashion right now. Halima, the first model to wear a headscarf on the runway; Lauren, who’s been killing it in the worlds of fashion and film for 50 years, and Hilary, who at 30 has been the face of Estee Lauder for a decade. Who better to front our bi-annual super-sized issue dedicated to fashion?
And what an issue it is. After being the first British fashion magazine to put Ashley Graham on the cover in 2016, we’ve introduced the new model army, seven of the hottest plus-size girls working in fashion today. We’ve shot them wearing this season’s biggest trends and shown you wear to shop their favourite new-in pieces, too – proving that fashion can be inclusive.
Elsewhere, Laura Antonia Jordan reveals fashion’s plus-size conspiracy and why the industry still shunning a billion-pound market in a deeply personal and game-changing piece. After all, why are the catwalks predominantly filled with tall and thin models, when the average British woman is a size 16 and 5ft 3in? As Laura writes, ‘We’re being sold a lie: even the models don’t look like that without professional hair and make-up, expert lighting and airbrushing.’
Because fashion should be fun, we also celebrate the return of a newer, happier mood on the catwalks, from new Queen of the FROW Celine Dion, to designers embracing sequins, colour, and a sense of humour. Now there’s something to smile about.
The Big Fashion Issue is on newsstands tomorrow – don’t miss it.
