US Vogue's September issue front cover was leaked on the internet earlier today and within minutes, the fashion world was in frenzy. Was it for real? Could it be true? Is she really the cover star?
The answer, of course, is YES. Because who else would be better to head-up the issue, than the world's most famous popstar?
Making history as only the third black woman to grace the September issue cover EVER, Beyoncé – aka 'Queen Bey' – is the face of next month's US Vogue.
Joining the ranks of Naomi Campbell and Halle Berry, Beyoncé makes her third appearance as the magazine's cover star (her first was in April 2009, her second, in March 2013) but her first as its September starlet. (For those not 'in the know', September's US Vogue is the biggest, most important fashion issue of the year.)
With photographs by Mario Testino, a preview of her feature has appeared on Vogue's tumblr page, and includes a teaser video of the Testino shoot, starring (of course) Queen Bey.
In the blog she is described as a 'powerhouse'; a 'diva' – in the best sense of the word; a woman who can 'out-strut and stare down any man in the film frame'.
'The most powerful thing about her persona,' it continues, 'is the unabashed pleasure she takes in her own body: its beauty, its power, its versatility.'
And whilst, yes, that is 100% true, we'd like to go even further. More powerful than the pleasure she takes in her own body, is the example she sets for us by doing so. If Beyoncé unabashedly loves her body, we can unabashedly love OUR bodies. By extension, if Beyoncé is proud of Beyoncé, we can be proud of ourselves.
A queen setting a good example for her people? Well, that sounds rather appropriate...
Let's give a big cheer for Queen Bey: the icon, so very en vogue.
