I went on a little visit to COS and put together some looks that I think are perfect to wear in-between seasons, when the weather is all over the place. I always find September slightly tricky; it's not abnormal to experience a heat wave and a miniature monsoon all in the space of one week, you just never know. I can see the shops preparing for this time of year – the chunky knits begin to creep out on to the racks and sturdy boots are becoming more prominent, yet there are still a couple of open-toe sandals to choose from just in case.
These should see you through a pretty average week in our lovely city. Some for running around in the daytime if it’s warm and others to smarten up a little bit for chillier evenings. It's the time of year where it’s acceptable to mix wintery buys with your summer staples…
The cool-but-smart skirt
I'm a huge lover of head-to-toe black; even more so when there is a bright pop of colour thrown into the mix. This silk skirt has a really smart feel, but the ruched waist makes it comfortable and easy to wear. I'm thinking – day at the office and then on to a couple of cocktails with the girls. This look definitely only works with flat shoes as the arms and legs are bare, and heels might look slightly over the top.

The knit you'll never take off
Cool and casual here, muted autumnal tones with a chunky classic knit and legs out, because when else can you do that? I fell in love with this jumper as soon as I saw it. It's a good keeper to snuggle in around the house or in your office if you really want, but it also has that heavy luxe element to it. Add a bright red lipstick and you're ready to go.
The oversized blazer
I love this look for day and night. It's perfect for smart meetings but can equally take you to dinner in the evening. I'm not usually one for overly smart clothes as I feel too serious (so not me) but I think every wardrobe should have a few tailored options and this grey coat is a good versatile one.
The statement top
I'm loving this bright green jumper; a bit of colour to keep the last of summertime going. I can see it thrown on with jeans, or with this lovely black ruched silk skirt. I'd be inclined to wear this knit over just a bra and lose the T-shirt, to keep it looking slinky.

The most amazing dress you'll buy this autumn
You can guarantee it's going to pour it down with rain at least once this week – which is where this look comes in. I think the muted tone of it provides an opportunity to throw in something verging on garish – the white shoes. Kind of cool? A dark red lipstick would really complement the look.
The actually-smart jeans
It's that time of year where it’s acceptable to mix a knitted jumper with a pair of open-toe sandals right? I've never tried COS jeans on before but these are really well cut and snug. I love this pink jumper – one of those that isn't as attractive on the hanger, but as soon as you put it on it's a different story.
