The first fashion week of the year has already provided some much-needed new year inspiration, although you'd be forgiven for having missed it altogether. Over the weekend, London Fashion Week: Men's showcased the new collections from some of the most exciting names in menswear right now. The verdict? Whoever you are, you're going to want to keep your eye on these young creatives.
Whether it was killer colour combos, alternative silhouettes or, simply, womenswear looks mixed in among the flurry of menswear, there was an abundance of collections that shouldn't just be kept for the boys. Here are some of our very favourite looks...
Charles Jeffrey
Charles Jeffrey is the club kid extraordinaire whose theatrical glamour is always a highlight of the menswear season. Scottish by blood, he even has his own tartan and never shies away from using it. This season, his fashionable little hellish angels dressed to the nines for his AW20 show entitled "Hell Mends You". Key moments included the below-the-knee offerings for everything from skirts to scarves, a carefully cinched waist and a statement trench coat.
Nicholas Daley
Nicholas Daley makes cool an easy accomplishment. He is the master of a modern British elegance that's blends the vibrant cultures and identities we're likely to encounter on a stroll through the city. Take note of the co-ord wool check, tasteful style combinations executed with an air of nonchalance and head-to-toe tonal outfits.
Stefan Cooke
Stefan Cooke is the Central Saint Martins graduate and Fashion East alumnus who often has a few tricks up his sleeves. Ever the fan of a trompe l'oeil, Cooke collaborated with Lee Jeans to give us the visual effect printed on denim and rhinestone embellishments. His knack for repurposing vintage handbags is a sustainable approach that we can all take note of and just look at those lovely swooping necklines. What's not to love?
Grace Wales Bonner
Grace Wales Bonner is known for her research-heavy explorations of culture through dress and adornment. Collections are often a cultural melting pot with firm roots in both Caribbean and African culture with a British sensibility. It's sleek, it's elegant and it knows no borders. She made headlines when the Duchess of Sussex wore one of her dresses for her first outing since giving birth to baby Archie, and we predict big things in the coming year.
Martine Rose
A little known fact is that Martine Rose is the designer consultant for Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga menswear division. You may notice her special touch in the haphazard layering, aggressively soled square toed shoes and a taste for the everyday (formal shirting, classic menswear coats) with a high fashion spin.
