Have you ever thought about what costume department you'd like to raid? Maybe you're all about straw bonnets and prairie dresses (Little Women). Or perhaps it's plaid skirt suits and knee-high socks that get you hot under the collar (Clueless). But whether you're a Jo or a Cher, I think we can all agree that a little escapism via the silver screen's most fashionable icons (ahem, Dorothy Dandridge, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn) can't be a bad thing right now. In no particular order, here are 25 of the best film costumes of all time.

Crazy Rich Asians
Peik Lin jokes to wide-eyed Rachel that she can't go to the Nick Young's house dressed like the crab from The Little Mermaid. Cue a series of fabulous cocktail dresses, some of which are pulled from the boot of Lin's car, that make Crazy Rich Asians one of the funnest celebrations of good old-fashioned glam in recent years.
Little Women
You can thank Greta Gerwig, and the charming March sisters, for the resurgence in period drama dressing and wholesome picnic baskets. Also Timothée Chalamet gadding about in white shirts and cravats? Yes, please.
Hustlers
Aside from the metallic bras, latex thigh boots, thongs and bodycon dresses, the scene where J.Lo envelops Constance Wu in her fur coat on a club rooftop is just excellent.
The Virgin Suicides
Sofia Coppola's film tells the story of the five Lisbon sisters who, closeted by their parents, make a suicide pact that ultimately, and tragically, comes to fruition. The floral nightgowns, perhaps symbolising their fast-fading childhood, still have something of a cult following today.
Carmen Jones
Dorothy Dandridge's character meets a tragic end at the finale of Carmen Jones, but her outfit on the movie's poster, a black off-the-shoulder blouse and a blood-red pencil skirt, still feels modern.
Clueless
No 18 year-old I know wears Alaïa to house parties and Calvin Klein to watch movies, but Cher Horowitz is a law unto herself. No surprises, then, that we all still want to dress like her, even after all these years.
Dreamgirls
Like the music, the costumes in Dreamgirls are bedazzled enough, glamorous enough and loud enough to make the heart swell with emotion.
Misbehaviour
The story of what happened when a bunch of feminist activists tried to disrupt 1970's Miss World competition, with a thrillingly retro wardrobe of suede shirt dresses and big hairdos for stars Keira Knightley and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Queen & Slim
Queen & Slim's costume director, Shiona Turini, wanted to celebrate black culture, craftsmanship and creativity through the film's clothes, which range from a thigh-skimming zebra-print dress to a good-enough-to-stroke velour tracksuit. 'For a film that's aimed at illuminating black experience in the United States, it was so important to think of the different facets and potent cultural wells of blackness,' she told Grazia.
To Catch A Thief
What we wouldn't give to be Grace Kelly's character in To Catch A Thief, holidaying on the French Riviera with a suitcase stuffed full of one jaw-droppingly beautiful dress after another, this summer.
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
The night ends with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey spitting, 'You're So Vain,' at one another, but we'd feel a little big-headed ourselves if we were wearing that buttercup-coloured gown. It's still the inspiration for countless prom dresses across the world.
Atonement
Keira Knightley wears this utterly bewitching gown at the most pivotal moment in Atonement, where love is declared and a terrible accusation is made, that makes its beauty all the more bittersweet.
Manhattan
It's the opposite to her ice queen polish as Miranda Priestly, but the combination of easy breezy blouses and a tumbling mane of hair still makes Manhattan one of our favourite Meryl style moments.
The Favourite
We wouldn't be surprised if sales of pearl earrings soared after 2018's The Favourite, where you can immediately tell who is currying favour in Queen Anne's court based by how big their ear adornments are.
Basic Instinct
The dangerously sexy wardrobe of Sharon Stone includes this lethal 'interrogation outfit'. Michael Douglas doesn't stand a chance.
Funny Face
Funny Face marked the start of Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy's longtime collaboration. The scene where she walks down the steps of the Louvre, wearing a strapless scarlet gown and elbow-length gloves, is a real heart-stopper.
Atomic Blonde
Charlize Theron's spy-thriller, Atomic Blonde, has incredibly distinctive '80s style, MI6 spy Lorraine (played by Theron) was decked out in vintage Dior, Burberry trenches, John Galliano vinyl coats, Stuart Weitzman boots and Margiela suits.
The Devil Wears Prada
The ultimate fashion movie. Meryl Streeps performance as Miranda Priestly, a caricature of Anna Wintour, won her an Oscar-nomination - and rightly so. Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Andie is every girls dream glow-up from drab ensembles to head-to-toe Chanel. Oh, and not forgetting the cameo by supermodel Gisele Bündchen.
Moulin Rouge
Baz Luhrmann's 2001 masterpiece, set in Paris circa 1902 Bohemia, is awash with intricate, bejewelled corsets and feathered negligees —and that's just Nicole Kidman's Satine.
Sex and The City
Patricia Field became a superstar in her own right when she worked as the stylist on HBO's Sex and the City. And the 2008 Hollywood adaption if the TV series certainly holds in own in the fashion stakes.
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood might make for some seriously intense viewing - but, for vintage fashion fanatics, the wardrobe of Margot Robbie's note-perfect Sharon Tate is sensational.
The Great Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann's 2013 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel rallied designers from across the globe. Brooks Brothers supplied 1,200 suits, Miuccia Prada designed 40 dresses, and Tiffany & Co. designed the diamond headpieces worn by Carey Mulligan's Daisy.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Gwyneth Paltrow's Margot Tenenbaum has long been a style icon of the fashion industry - think pastel polo shirts, oversized glasses and furs. Very Gucci.
Black Swan
Rodarte sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy designed two of the film's iconic ballerina dresses worn by Natalie Portman.
