In a land far far away the fashion gods and Disney maestros cooked up a plan so cool, so unexpected, so…spring / summer ’17.
Yep, the brains behind making crocs a genuinely cool item - Christopher Kane if you have taken an Insta-detox of late – has created a limited edition Beauty and the Beast collection of unisex ready-to-wear pieces and accessories.
The Scottish designer, known for his off-beat and standout shows during London Fashion Week says he ‘wanted to create a modern day interpretation and wardrobe for the strong, heroic female character, offering an elegant and modern representation of such a beloved and classic story.’
‘I have loved Disney since my childhood and all of the classics, of which Beauty and the Beast is one,’ Kane said in a statement. ‘Looking back at past seasons, our archive was rich with elements that support Beauty and the Beast themes, and we were very much inspired by the film’s setting and mood.’
Although don’t expect to nab a vintage yellow ball gown– this new line is a very modern fashion fairytale – think photographic organza applique skirts, teacup earrings, pastel blue garments (a nod to Belle’s ‘casual’ dress in the film), and enchanted rose tees.
No doubt inspired by the actress who is playing Belle in the reboot we've all been waiting for, Kane and Disney have collaborated with sustainable brand consultancy Eco-Age.
Emma Watson - an outspoken advocate of ethical shopping - even set up a new Instagram account, @the_press_tour, to shine the spotlight on lesser-known eco-friendly brands she’s wearing during the global promo tour of Beauty and the Beast.
Conscious clothing? Christopher Kane? DISNEY? This is sure to sell out fast.
The Christopher Kane capsule will be available from March 16th, alongside the film’s global release, in the brand’s flagship store on London’s Mount Street and its e-commerce site christopherkane.com.
