While invitations often come with a dress code, there are rarely rules for party accessories. However, to look your best this festive season, there is only one bag to be seen holding. Though the joy of Christmas parties is the chance to dress up (to the nines), this piece is just as wearable with a pair of jeans as it a full-on frock. And, we have illustrated proof.

After spending the past summer carrying rustic straw totes, this winter style influencers have done a 180. Unlike the durable practicality of those much-loved raffia accessories, they are embracing a silly new aesthetic, that of the beaded bag. Not since the 1800s have these fanciful minaudière’s had such a following. Courtesy of Shrimp’s Antonia bag, Susah Alexandra’s hand-strung creations and Vanina’s cult Camelia crossbody, this accessory style is back.

1. The Princess Purse

Note the high-low of Laura Jackson much coveted Shrimps Antonio bag against her Adidas Gazelle sneakers.

2. Bag Lady

Described as ‘exceptionally sparkly’, Susan Alexandra’s hand beaded bags throw shade at everything else.

3. Going Hands-Free

Street style photographer Tamu McPherson knows a thing or two about capturing the zeitgeist. Case in point her cross body Camelia bag by Vanina.

4. The Suit Reboot

Offset the boyishness of a suit with the swinging beads of an evening bag, like Maria Bernad has.

5. Swing Time

Proof that an evening bag works just as well during daylight hours (as long as you colour block it with your whole ensemble).
