While it may seem a little over zealous to start shopping for next winter’s wardrobe straight from the catwalk, consider this - by wearing a chic repertoire of pieces no one had the foresight to snap up, you’ll be (smugly) ahead of the curve. So as you wonder why on earth you’re buying a coat as we step into spring, just remember; preparation is never lost time, especially when it comes to A/W17.
1. Fluffy shoes
If you are tempted to throw out your furry shoes from last season, don’t. And if you never bought a pair in the first place, it’s time to join the conversation. The furry shoe is making a return but in new incarnations – like the furry Mary Janes seen at Simone Rochas. Simply team with slouchy socks.
2. The mid-calf dress
40’s, floral or velvet …whatever style you opt for inject a hint of insouciance by adding a poloneck and knee high slouchy boots.
3. Velvet
Back for another season, velvet is poised to be a modern classic. Don’t play safe – it’s all about eye popping yellows, blues and bright reds.
4. Florals
Florals will be everywhere next season, particularly on dresses. The type and colour of floral however is not so important. What is key is shape; high necks, midi lengths, big sleeves are worth looking out for. It's all about making a statement.
5. Yellow
Not as scary to wear as you think. If all else fails go for mustard or an accessory.
6. Checks
From Lumberjack to Prince of Wales, the humble check has been given a fashionable upgrade.
7. Pale knits
The ultimate luxury cover up – particularly if you go for Burberry ‘s AW17 offering which is, incredibly, available to buy right now. A near white knit will never be the most practical of buys but if every style purchase was pragmatic, surely we’d all be bored?
8. Burgundy
Knee high boots, mannish jackets , coats, bags, dresses... this sultry hue is a winner on absolutely everything.
9. Menswear tailoring
The suit is back again except this time the jacket is oversized and double breasted, shirts are prudishly buttoned and come with pockets, and the trousers are long and wide Greta Garbo style. Team with a pointy pair of monk inspired shoes.
