Richard Nicoll has sadly passed away at the age of 39, reportedly from a suspected heart attack.
According to the Australian Daily Telegraph, an ambulance was called to his home in King's Cross in the early hours of Friday morning and he was reportedly taken to St Vincent's hospital.
The Central Saint Martins alumnus was renowned for his talents in fashion, having shown at London Fashion Week for over a decade. The Australian designer famously worked alongside Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, launched several capsule collections for Topshop and received various awards for his commitments to fashion including three Association Nationale pour le Développement des Arts de la Mode prizes.
The Perth-raised designer’s graduate collection was famously purchased by Dolce and Gabanna in 2002, which helped kickstart his career.
Richard then went on to launch his eponymous line in 2005 which garnered the attention of celebrities such as Kate Bosworth and Kylie Minogue.
Following a decade of success for the brand, Nicoll later went on to become the creative director of French label Cerutti between the years 2009 and 2011.
Richard's family released a statement earlier today: “Richard was one of the quiet stars of fashion. He was a true gentleman, a wonderful friend and a much loved son. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing him knew that he had a heart of gold, an innate kindness and a modesty and humility that sometimes didn’t allow him to acknowledge his own exceptional creative talent. He loved his life in Australia."
Adding: "He had recently confirmed a new role at Adidas and a collaboration with Woolmark both of which he was excited about. We will miss his handsome face, his sense of humour and his love.”
The designer was planning on joining Adidas as creative director in January 2017.
