ASOS Has a New Underwear Range and It’s More Inclusive Than Ever

Nude underwear can be a nightmare to shop for. Much like foundation, it often comes in the same vaguely oatmeal colour that seems to suit no one. ASOS is one of the biggest brands yet to do something about this: they announced on Twitter yesterday that they’ve launched a new nude underwear range that comes in three shades: chestnut, golden and beige.

Until now, inclusive nude underwear ranges have been few and far between. Independent brands have been at the forefront of this movement, with companies like Nubian Skin and BeingU putting an emphasis on selling products for darker skin tones. American Eagle’s underwear brand Aerie has a better nude underwear offering than most, but this is difficult to purchase in the UK. ASOS’ range is one of the more accessible and inexpensive options to hit the market, with bras at £8 and underwear only £4.

Skin tone inclusivity has been a subject of discussion in the media since Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty launch last year, when she released 40 different shades of the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and 10+ shades of the concealing and contouring Match Stix. Many beauty brands then scrambled to meet the demand for underrepresented tones, particularly the darkest shades in the range. Estee Lauder and Maybelline were among the big names to release darker foundations after the Fenty launch.

Perhaps more UK brands will take note of the demand for a better selection of nude products, and clothing that suits a variety of skin tones. The size range of the new ASOS underwear is XS-XL and it’s not clear yet whether ASOS Curve will be selling the products as well.

At the moment the nude collection is limited to triangle bras and microfiber thongs, but we’re hoping this new underwear is just the beginning of a bigger, better, more inclusive ASOS range.
