Trust Alexander Wang to invite all the most in-demand models and celebrities to his party, sorry show. Disregarding the traditional fashion week format, Wang took models like Bella Hadid, Suki Waterhouse and Kaia Gerber on a party-bus tour of New York. Stopping at three locations, the American designer hosted the likes of Kim and Kris Kardashian, Tinashe, Sofia Richie and Anwar Hadid on his front row.
Between the starry personalities present and the viral concept, the clothes almost felt like an afterthought. The collection took the idea of after party attire and ran with it. Dresses were twisted and ripped, jacket sleeves became belts, and shirting fabric became a layering device. Some items were more successful than others like two twisted and knotted cami dresses that Bella Hadid and Anna Ewers wore. Equally so, a pair of denim cut-offs worn over a leather legging looked ready to be embraced by Wang devotees. If Kendall Jenner doesn’t already have a pair, expect to see her in them soon!
As for the make-up and the hair? Wang took an au naturel approach to beauty. Maybe the look was meant to be so post-party that the girls had already whipped out their micellar water. If not, take this as a sign that post-watershed engagements don’t require smokey eyes anymore!
Where the beauty took a low-key approach the accessories did not. Feathered headdresses studded with crystals reading ‘party animal’ and ‘Wangoever’ were worn by Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. Elsewhere, chunky silver chain necklaces and bike chain chokers with weighted hardware were paired with little black dresses.
Those who enjoyed Wang’s last collaboration with Adidas will be happy to see the relationship is on going. A few three-striped pieces crept into the collection. For instance, a pair of trousers that truncated the iconic stripes and wrapped them crisscross over model Emm Arruda’s legs were debuted alongside a new take on the classic zip-up jacket, which featured a belt made of sleeves. Expect this to sell out instantly!
