Taylor Swift has officially said yes and given us a peek at her own love story. The popstar shared the news on Instagram with a series of dreamy photos from the proposal, captioning them cheekily: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’ Fans swooned, knowing Taylor and Travis Kelce started dating in 2023 after months of speculation and rumours.

Hot on the heels of Georgina Rodríguez’s engagement and her best friend Selena Gomez’s announcement, it seems love really is in the air. Other than the Ralph Lauren dress, what really caught everyone’s attention was that engagement ring.

Lisa Levinson, Head of UK, Natural Diamond Council, said, ‘The choice of an antique diamond could have had many lives and experiences before it was chosen to be their engagement ring. She explained, 'Many old cut diamonds have been refashioned, which means their rarity increases by the year. The size of the diamond already makes it exceedingly rare, for diamonds that are larger than 5 carats, we recover less than the volume of a basketball each year, globally.’

Jewellery expert Nilesh Rakholia, founder of Abelini, added context on the significance of the piece. According to him, the ring was crafted by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry alongside Kelce. ‘What strikes me most about Swift’s choice isn’t just the estimated million-pound price tag, but the deliberate embrace of old-world artistry,’ he said. ‘It’s a rejection of mass production in favour of genuine craftsmanship.’

He also predicts the Swift effect on engagement ring trends will likely persist well beyond the initial media frenzy. ‘While we have seen similar pieces before - Scarlett Johansson's antique Art Deco ring with an old mine-cut diamond in 2013, Mary-Kate Olsen's vintage 1950s Cartier piece, and Milla Jovovich's vintage old mine-cut stone - Taylor is now setting the definitive tone for renewed interest in bespoke design services, vintage-cut diamonds, and independent artisans.’

He also noted the wider cultural impact: ‘Within 24 hours of Taylor Swift’s engagement announcement, Google searches for ‘Taylor Swift engagement ring’ surged by 10,100%.

This is likely not the last we’ll hear from Kindred Lubeck. Since Taylor’s post, the jeweller’s website has been flooded, with pieces flying off the virtual shelves. Comments have poured in praising the craftsmanship and unique design. Taylor’s engagement has captured hearts but also shone a light on the creativity behind independent jewellery design.
