Around £7.5 million. That’s the reported price tag on the diamond ring Cristiano Ronaldo chose for his proposal - proving once again that the football legend knows how to make a lasting impression both on and off the field.
Georgina Rodríguez shared the news on Instagram with a single, striking image: her hand, adorned with the colossal sparkler, resting against Ronaldo’s. She captioned it, ‘Sí, quiero. En esta y en todas mis vidas’ - ‘Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.’ And I will say, I have never seen a diamond on an engagement ring so big - it’s practically setting the standard for every celebrity proposal from here on out. Fans were quick to weigh in, flooding the comments with awe. ‘This is breathtaking,’ wrote one, while another declared, ‘No one should ever show their engagement ring again.’ Agreed.
Diamond experts from UK jeweller Steven Stone examined the piece, breaking down exactly why it’s such a standout. ‘Georgina has been anticipating this jewellery moment for quite some time and Cristiano certainly delivered,’ says Maxwell Stone. ‘The footballer proposed with an extraordinary 30-carat oval-cut diamond, a true showstopper. To put this into perspective, while the average celebrity engagement ring boasts around 4 carats, the typical ring for everyday people is closer to 1 carat.
‘The impressive centre stone is flanked by substantial side stones and almost certainly set on a platinum band. Known for its density, durability, and rarity, platinum is the most coveted and most expensive metal choice for engagement rings. With Georgina’s jewellery collection already valued at over $4 million, it’s hardly surprising that her engagement ring is, without question, the most spectacular we’ve seen so far this year. I’d estimate it to be worth around $10 million (£7.5 million).’
Ronaldo and Rodríguez’s love story spans eight years, beginning when they met at a Gucci store in Madrid. They share two daughters Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda and are co-parents to Ronaldo’s other children.
In the Netflix documentary I Am Georgina, Ronaldo once said: ‘I always tell her: ‘When we get that click. Like everything with our life, and she knows what I’m talking about. It could be in a year, or it could be in six months, or it could be in a month. ‘I’m 1000% sure that it will happen.’
Talk about a long anticipation but certainly worth the wait. Rumours had already been swirling earlier this year when Rodríguez stepped out with a ring of similar size, but now the speculation is over
