We couldn’t be more delighted that that last few years have seen the sporting of ‘active wear’ on the weekend become a socially acceptable concept. Yep – whether you Barrecore, box or brunch, there’s now a brand-new breed of wardrobe with the potential to take you from Saturday morning to Sunday evening without undressing (if you so desire).
And it so happens that the fashion world has enjoyed a particularly lusty love affair with sporting footwear: Recent seasons have witnessed fashion houses from Gucci to Fendi, DKNY and Celine offering up their take on the not-so-humble sneaker. But because we are unlikely to take our Gucci’s to the gym, our search for the perfect running shoe, that can take us from the park to a Pimms has continued…
Until now that is. Fortunately, our research recently revealed what might be the perfect hybrid in the form of Nike’s brand new Vapormax Trainers, £170 (out this month). Made with snug fitting Flyknit material, and a streamlined air bubble sole, they look just as good with your favourite denims and a trench as your new running leggings and crop top. We put them to the test….

Chanelle Ho, Beauty Assistant
'I rarely actually make it to the gym, but I constantly live in active-wear. I remember having a pair of air bubble trainers when I was younger, but these are much more stream-lined making my feet look smaller, narrower and slicker’.
Nike leggings (£75) and top (£45)
Melissa Henry, Editorial Assistant
‘I’m a real gym bunny and try to get my sweat on four or five times a week. I’ve made the switch from my regular trainers to the Vapormax and they have dramatically changed my stance. The FlyKnit material makes them really snug and supportive around my ankle, and they’re impressively light, making running home so much more enjoyable.'
Melissa wears Nike leggings (£63), top (£30) and jacket (£63)
Phoebe McDowell, Junior Beauty Writer
‘I like to squeeze in my workouts before or after work, so having a good pair of trainers that compliment my every day wardrobe is super important. The Vapormax comes in an off-white hue which is great, as they don’t look too stark when paired with black jeans’.
Phoebe wears Topshop jeans (£40), Sandro top (£199), Sharon Wauchob trench coat (£1,200)
Sam Freedman, Associate Beauty Editor
‘My wardrobe combines a lot of sporty and streetwear, making the Vapormax an easy addition to style. They’re super comfy thanks to the bubbles, which give you the feeling you’re walking on air. I’ll swap these for heels any day’.
Sam wears Nike leggings, £25, Sunspel t-shirt, £65, New Look denim jacket, £34.99, Zara khaki jacket, £69.99.
