The first incarnation of Apple’s smartwatch was a sell-out success. How to top it? The answer was launched this September in New York. Generation 2 is slicker, faster and more intelligent (trust Apple). Read on to meet the world’s smartest smart watch.
Wrist candy
Apple excels at fusing style with substance – devices that work hard and look great. Apple Watch mark two is no exception. Small design tweaks deliver a similar-looking package to Series 1, in polished stainless steel or lightweight aluminium (with a brand new range of band colours, that we love). But it’s what’s on the inside that really sets this watch apart.
In the swim
Fans of the UK’s biggest participation sport will be delighted to meet the timepiece’s new swim features. Water resistant to 50 metres (V1 doesn’t like more than splashes) the new watch is optimised for your swim sessions. Select from pool or open water and the natty gadget will track your speed, pace and distance, as well as auto-detecting stroke to measure calories burned.
Run the world
Looking for a running buddy that keeps your pace, and doesn’t run out of juice on the final stretch? Series 2 is the answer. In-built GPS means even if you’re heading to the trails/woods/outback, there’s no need to take your phone too (goodbye sweaty arm strap). Plus, improved battery life ensures the watch keeps going during your marathon training (or post pub Sunday walk).
Track star
There’s something seriously satisfying about seeing your mileage plotted out post sweat sesh. Apple stores data during your run/swim/cycle/walk, which is recorded via a route map that tracks precise distance, pace and speed - perfect for training, tracking PBs and storing favourite routes.
So simple
Intuition is central to the Apple experience – tech that knows what you’re thinking. Series 2 ups the game – it works faster than its older sister, as well as offering better access to third party apps, apple pay and notifications. Plus, the brighter display means speed checking your stats on-the-go is easier than ever – even in bright sunshine.
