‘Raw eating’ and ‘clean eating’ is the dietary regime celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow swear by in order to lead a healthy life. However, it has now been revealed that consuming only raw food could be doing more harm than good.

As reported by The Telegraph, Geneticist Professor Steve Jones says that consuming raw food alone for more than six months could be extremely dangerous, as humans have evolved in such a way that we are now unable to easily digest raw food.

‘We are the only animal who has ever lived that would starve to death if we ate raw food alone,’ Professor Jones said at Hay Festival - a festival of literature and arts.

‘We've lost the ability to digest our food. We've lost the enzymes and the absorption mechanism to digest raw food.’

The concept of clean eating is simple. It’s about choosing foods that have not been (or have minimally been) processed, refined or handled, meaning they hold as much of their original nutrients as possible.

The takeaway from Professor Jones' intelligence is that while eating organically and upping your intake of green vegetables, nuts and other nutritious foods is a positive dietary change (and delicious) - you should only do so in moderation.
