To situate you, the year was 2006, everyone was watching The OC and listening to Daniel Powter croon Bad Day. Sienna Miller had just made a splash with her first fashion collaboration, was residing over London as Queen of the Boho Chic look and was still dating Jude Law. It was on this backdrop that she walked The Met Gala’s hallowed red carpet in a gold shift dress with thick black tights and patent Mary-Jane heels (from Marc Jacobs, we believe).
Just before Christmas, Miller re-wore the Christopher Bailey for Burberry micro-dress for a night out with Noel Gallagher at Chiltern Firehouse (surely that’s a story for another day). Sparkling from beneath a double-breasted jacket, the glint of those golden sequins was unmistakable. In 2018, the high denier tights stayed but the heels and bag were swapped for platformed sandals and a green silk mini bag. She kept her golden tan (St Tropez, perhaps?) but this time let her hair down and went easy on the black kohl liner.
The thigh-revealing lengths of mini skirts have been staging a comeback, with ASOS and Net-A-Porter backing their revival along with influencers and royalty (Camille Charier and The Duchess of Cambridge, respectively). With shorter lengths on the agenda again it’s only a natural that the mini-dress will come knocking. Miller’s upcycling of an old party dress may be just that, or perhaps it predicts a bigger burgeoning trend. If you're inclined to believe the latter, get on board with a pair of cashmere-blend tights (we like Falke’s) and a swinging shift (Zara has plenty of options).
