Tonight is undoubtedly the most talked about event in the fashion calendar, as the A-list elite (or shall we say those who managed to bag a golden ticket), don their finest attire for the highly-anticipated Met Gala.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art plays host to Anna Wintour's annual extravaganza and this year, the theme for its 2017 Costume Institute exhibition and accompanying gala is, 'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between'.

And we have to admit, we're unsure as to how Wintour's chosen few will pay sartorial homage to the 74-year-old Japanese designer, who is famously renowned for an 'anti-fashion' stance.

Since 1973, Rei Kawakubo has used fashion to 'challenge conventional notions of beauty, good taste and fashionability'. And the designer often transcends the traditional barriers of gender through avant-garde design.

So we're foreseeing supersized sihouettes, origami-style pleats and an architectural aesthetic.

The ceremony, co-chaired by the likes of Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, is due to kick off at 7pm across the pond.

And we'll be rounding up the sartorial magic, as the evening unfolds...

Is that you under there, Katy? The singer opted for a floor-skimming gown by Maison Margiela for tonight’s star-studded event. She finished the tulle dress with a custom John Galliano crimson coat and veil. A fitting tribute to Rei Kawakubo if you ask us.

Solange Knowles

Solange never fails to deliver on the fashion front when it comes to the prestigious event and this year was no different. The singer approached the theme with sartorial precision and opted for a quilted jacket by Thom Browne and ‘ice skating’ boots.

The Olsen Twins

Fashion’s favourite twins never fail to nail the theme and this year was no different. The Olsens took us back to the early noughties and much to our surprise (and joy) brought back boho. Mary-Kate and Ashley layered custom jewellery, lace and faux fur like it was 2010. We kind of love it.

Bee Shaffer

Anna Wintour’s newly-engaged daughter took to the red carpet with her fiancée for the first time in an Alexander McQueen gown. The 29-year-old finished the look with romantic tresses and oversized costume jewellery.

Elle Fanning

Elle is no stranger to red carpet events and opted for a princess-esque gown by Miu Miu. The actress finished the sky blue gown with a silver head accessory and minimal makeup.

The model of the moment just brought a whole new meaning to the sheer trend. Kendall challenged sister Kylie in a cut-out backless dress by La Perla. The 21-year-old finished the look with a bold lip.

Lily Aldridge

The Victoria's Secret model demonstrated how to wear spring/summer '17's biggest colour-blocking trend, pink and red. Lily opted for a Ralph Lauren custom-made charmeuse dress. She accessorised the look with Balenciaga thigh-high boots, a Lee Savage bag and Bulgari jewelry.
