Blair Waldorf watch out, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has descended on Manhatten and she's here to take the title of style Queen.

The Duchess is currently sojourning in New York City for her baby shower, which rumour has it will have Amal Clooney and Serena Williams in attendance and be held at the Penthouse Suite of The Mark hotel. FYI, the largest suite at this hotel stretches over two floors, has six bathrooms, four fireplaces and costs a blinding $75,000 per night. With plans for the baby shower presumably taken care of, Meghan has had some free time to flex her sartorial muscles and showcase two of the biggest trends of 2019 in the space of 48 short hours.

We've come to associate the Duchess' handbag taste with dinky little iPhone sized bags, like those by Victoria Beckham and Gabriella Hearst. In keeping with this season's movement towards capacious bags, which was supported on the SS19 runways by Jacquemus, Proenza Schouler and Stella McCartney, Meghan has started sporting a tan Carolina Herrera 'Mariola' tote.

Later, a-typically Meghan chose a pair of calf-high boots (instead of her standard choice of stilettos) for dinner out at Polo Bar, Ralph Lauren’s New York restaurant. It was how she wore these Tamara Mellon Kindred Mid Calf boots that has captivated our interest. Evidently taking styling note from the Copenhagen street style scene, the Duchess stuffed her Hatch skinny jeans into her boots. Revolutionary? Perhaps not, but this is the only way to wear your boots and trousers in 2019 according to fashion insiders. 'I’ve been wearing high boots everywhere with pants inside the boots,' Rotate designer and street style favourite Thora Valdimars told Grazia.

Making a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards calls for a pretty spectacular outfit. Enter this timeless number, which has since set the bar high for one-shoulder gowns.

The Duchess of Sussex may have retired the Tig, but she's still setting style trends even if there's no place for her to post #OOTD shots
