Cast your minds back to September, when Meghan Markle made her first official public appearance with Prince Harry, taking a courtside seat at the Invictus Games in Toronto. Knowing that her photo would doubtless end up on the front pages of newspapers around the world, Meghan must have selected her outfit carefully: a classic white shirt from her friend Misha Nonoo’s line (prophetically named ‘the husband’), teamed with a pair of fitted, subtly distressed jeans in a light wash courtesy of cult label Mother. Her ensemble set the tone for a fresh approach to royal occasion dressing: smart but undeniably modern, with a laid-back edge.

One engagement announcement later and it seems that the fashion momentum of the ‘Meghan effect’ is showing no signs of slowing down. Such was the public demand for that specific pair of jeans that the Los Angeles-based denim brand has brought back The Looker style – which was from a previous collection, and therefore unavailable for fans to emulate back in September – and there’s already a 400-strong waiting list.

‘We brought back The Looker Ankle Fray in Love Gun a specific wash] that Meghan wore, due to the high demand which came directly from her wearing it,’ Mother founder Lela Becker told [The Telegraph. ‘The day after Meghan wore our jeans, we saw nearly a 200 percent increase in traffic on our website – more people came to motherdenim.com that day than they did on Black Friday.’

Mother has previously been favoured by a clutch of A-list stars, but the label almost never re-issues a specific style. In this instance, though, Becker explains that the demand from fans was unprecedented.

‘Very occasionally we will recut if there is high demand; this style was popular originally but we were not considering re-cutting it,’ she said. ‘That was until Meghan wore it and so many people were specially asking for the exact style. We made the decision to re-issue it in December.’

Now, time to get in line for a pair of our own...
