This Is Why Kate Middleton Wore A Tiara To A State Dinner Last Night, While Meghan Markle Didn’t

Back in October, both Meghan and Kate went to state dinners on the same evening, and while Kate wore a tiara, Meghan didn't, leaving people to speculate as to why there was such a difference in attire.

A source told the Daily Mail that Prince Charles advised Meghan not to wear a tiara to the dinner in Fiji, saying it wouldn't be appropriate for the occasion and would be reminiscent of an bygone era. 'Meghan did not understand all of this because she was new to the role and so Prince Charles told her that it would not be appropriate. It was very kindly done,' said the source.

Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Prince William and Kate Middleton were at state dinners on the same evening, and both Kate and Meghan wore blue gowns for their separate functions - they must have a WhatsApp group where they share potential outfit choices.

The events were pretty similar; Harry and Meghan were at a state dinner hosted by the President of Fiji at the Grand Pacific Hotel and William and Kate were at a state dinner at Buckingham Palace which the Queen had put on in honour of Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands who are on a two-day visit to the UK.

Royal fans will know that state dinners are one of the few occasions when royalty are permitted to wear tiaras – Kate wore the Lover's Knot tiara which was one of Princess Diana’s favourites, along with a necklace worn by the Queen mother, and a brooch featuring an image of the Queen with a yellow ribbon.

Some speculated that a tiara is too precious to be flown overseas with Meghan for her to wear, but this seems unlikely, the reason the Duchess of Sussex didn’t wear a tiara is more likely to do with the dress code for the event and what the other guests would be wearing for the occasion. Also, the actual Queen of England was the host at the state dinner Kate went to, which is more than enough reason to break out the good tiara.

As different as their jewelery may have been, their dresses were slightly more coordinated. Meghan wore a Blue ‘Gingko’ Cape Dress by British label Safiyaa, while Kate wore a pale blue dress by Alexander McQueen.
