The annual Serpentine Summer Party, which fetes the opening of the gallery’s latest pavilion, is a reliable melting pot of models, designers, artists, actresses and aristocrats. Princess Eugenie rubbed shoulders with Swedish royals and Amal Windsor while Adwoa Aboah, Niles Rodgers and Ella Purnell milled around the Kensington Gardens event in London's Hyde Park.
As the soiree was hosted by Chanel (with tickets priced at circa. £4,000 per person) a coterie of the house’s ambassadors were on hand to showcase the label’s glamorous designs. While the tweed tailoring and little black dresses may be the most obvious pointers to the event’s sponsors we couldn’t help but notice how many celebrities had embraced the brand’s kooky accessories.
Karl Lagerfeld’s sense of humour regularly erupts through the couture house’s jewellery and bag collections. Remember that hula hoop bag? Or that infamous vacuum-sealed container holding a flesh-coloured flap bag from the label’s AW14 supermarket collection? Between Suki Waterhouse’s tangerine minaudière and Ciara’s earrings, the evening’s entertainment came courtesy of the accessories. Amber Le Bon, in particular, bought a touch of lightness to the event with a luxury life buoy-shaped handbag. Practical? No, but adorable? Very much so.
Though we wish we had the budget for a Chanel token the reality is payday is still weeks away. To elevate the jealousy click through to see Serpentine Summer Party inspiration and where to find similar styles at a more cash-flow-conscious price.
