If anyone can pack an entire Gossip Girl season’s worth of high-fashion into one hectic day, it’s Blake Lively. Currently doing the press tour rounds for her latest film All I See Is You, in which she stars as a blind woman who regains her sight, the erstwhile Serena Van Der Woodsen pulled off not one, not two but seven outfit changes in a 24 hour period. For a civilian, that’s a week of outfits in one day. Raise your hand if you’re exhausted just thinking about it.
After a quick office discussion, we remembered that when it comes to condensing a catwalk of looks into a short period of time, Blake has form. Just think back to last summer: her press tour for genuinely terrifying shark-based horror The Shallows - a nightmarish cross between Blue Crush and Open Water - was a masterclass in pregnancy dressing for the unashamedly ‘extra’ (the actress was expecting her second daughter at the time). Shortly before, she seemingly managed to cram an entire awards season of embellished princess dresses into a few days in Cannes. Seriously, it’s a talent.
As for the looks in question, Blake started the day in bold banana yellow, wearing a top and trouser combo by US designer Brandon Maxwell. With slightly flared sleeves (and extra flared legs) it’s the sort of ensemble that would have us lesser mortals resembling a certain resident of Sesame Street; Blake, however, looks like the human embodiment of sunshine.
Up next were a classic Chanel jumpsuit in black and white dogtooth, followed by a strapless gown by Oscar de la Renta, complete with sequin detailing, a waterfall wave and a thigh-high slit.
Blake’s fourth ensemble was perhaps the most ‘high concept’ of the seven: a grey check double breasted trouser suit combo worthy of Working Girl, worn with a shirt, tie and long coat in the same print.
Then came another eclectic ensemble: a blue suede dress and maroon leather coat, worn with tapestry patterned boots.
And *then *a glittering basketball vest by US label Monse. And *then *a glittering nearly-naked dress that was perhaps closest to Blake’s signature red carpet style.
In summary? Blake’s real-life wardrobe can certainly put Serena’s to shame. You know you love it, XOXO
