We're all about equal opportunities here at Grazia, which is why we're bringing you not only our best-dressed women of the year, but also our best-dressed men. From established sartorial heavyweights (Eddie Redmayne, we're looking at you) to newcomers to the fashion world (enter, Zayn Malik), these are the men who gave their female counterparts a run for their money in the fashion stakes over the past 12 months (in no particular order)...
Eddie Redmayne
We're not sure if it's because he's a former Burberry model, or because his colour blindness allows him to see past 'clashing' hues (his words, not ours), but Eddie Redmayne has a knack for pulling together surprising but dapper looks time and time again. With a love of texture (he's never far away from a velvet suit jacket) as well as prints, you can rely on him to bring his sartorial A-game to every red carpet appearance.
Zayn Malik
The former 1D star has undergone quite the transformation in the 18 months since he left his boyband days behind. Shedding his pop image in favour of something decidedly more edgy, he's now a champion of edgy shirts, slogan jumpers and band tees, all accessorised with his signature scowl. He cemented his new status as fashion's 'It' boy with front row appearances at Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton and is even dipping his toe into design, working on collections for Versace Versus and Giuseppe Zanotti.
Ryan Gosling
To be honest, we'd have put Ryan Gosling on this list even if he'd only made one public appearance this year, just for the chance to admire his handsomeness. Luckily for us, he's been out promoting two films, The Nice Guys and La La Land, with suave appearances at the Cannes Film Festival confirming his status as one of the chicest (and coolest) dressed men out there (if we have a favourite Gosling, it's definitely Cannes Gosling).
Chris Pine
Here at Grazia, we think Chris Pine's sartorial prowess goes sadly unnoticed (maybe it's the proliferation of 'Chris's' in Hollywood at the moment?) but he certainly knows his way around a wardrobe. Yes, he looks great in a classic tux, but he's also got a flair for slightly more avant garde looks - we love his black and gold printed short-sleeved shirt (centre) and his expert pairing of navy and white (right).
Jake Gyllenhaal
After a hiatus from the red carpet in 2015, Jake made a comeback this year with a new sartorial edge. We’re betting that the director of his latest film, Tom Ford, has something to do with his transformation, having already worked similar magic on his A Single Man lead Colin Firth.
Jamie Dornan
Jamie Dornan is the male equivalent of that annoying girl you went to school with who can throw on a pair of jeans and a white T-shirt and look amazing – the man looks good in whatever he wears. His nonchalant approach to fashion sees him frequently wearing untucked shirts, Clarks’ desert boots and slightly scruffy blazers on the red carpet, but somehow it just works. Perhaps not a look for your boyfriend to emulate (unless he looks like Jamie Dornan, in which case, we salute you).
John Legend
The husband of Chrissy Teigen has always been a dapper gent, but this year he seems to have stepped up his game even further, with a particularly strong collection of jazzy jackets. He’s also a fan of the no tie, buttoned-to-the-top look, which we have to say he is totally rocking.
Joshua Jackson
We’ve had a thing for Joshua Jackson ever since he played self-effacing, quietly romantic funny guy Pacey Witter on Dawson’s Creek, and recently rekindled our crush when The Affair hit our screens in 2014. His decade-long relationship with best-dressed list regular Diane Kruger clearly rubbed off on him – with a fondness for navy suiting and the daring to wear brown-on-brown.
Justin Trudeau
The Canadian Prime Minister ranks highly on our lust list for a number of reasons (his friendship with Prince Harry, his ability to flirt with the Queen on Twitter and his tendancy to make any photo op hilarious being just a few) but we're also a big fan of his style. The suave leader always manages to inject a little excitement in to his endless supply of suits - whether its a pair of white trousers or a fun belt. How do we go about emigrating to Canada, again?
Kit Harington
We're more used to seeing him wrapped up in layers of fur on Game of Thrones, but whenever Kit Harington is papped out and about, he's always rocking that quintessential London boy style. His signature? Skinny jeans, a plain tee and Chelsea boots - but we love him just as much when he's suited and booted in a tux.
Jared Leto
Ah Jared Leto, he doesn’t do anything by halves, does he? He loses weight and puts it back on again for film roles, he’s more method than Daniel Day-Lewis and he’s also the lead singer of a Guinness World Record-winning band, 30 Seconds to Mars. His wardrobe is no exception, with the genetically blessed former model frequently going all out with his clothes – no trend is safe when Jared’s around – but somehow his angelic face helps him pull off every look. This year a close friendship with Gucci designer Alessandro Michele has seen him becoming something of a spokesmodel for the brand, frequently wearing his designs for red carpet events.
The Weeknd
Being well-dressed is pretty much a given if you're a rapper or rockstar these days, and The Weeknd seemlessly combines both with his genre-defying music. While he sticks to a pretty basic uniform of black jeans, black tee and black jacket, he does mix things up with studding details and even the occasional metallic jacket - often accessorised with shades, naturally. We do miss his hair though.
