She was a firm fixture on the red carpet interviewing nominees, presenters and guests for E! at the BAFTAs on Sunday. And with award season well underway Sarah Jane Crawford talks to Grazia about dressing for the big event, dressing for the red carpet and chatting with David Beckham...
Grazia Daily: Hi Sarah Jane - you were presenting for E! for the first time at the BAFTAs on Sunday - how did you find it?
**Sarah Jane: ** It was amazing. It's the the first time I've been to the BAFTAS - I've been to some of the parties before but this was the first time I was at the main event and it's a great year for British stars.
GD: You looked great - who were you wearing?
SJ: I was wearing Ariella Couture. I had decided I was wearing a black dress but right at the last minute I decided on changing to the dusty pink dress. It's a bit different from what I normally go for but I saw it and my team just loved it. I was also wearing silvery Jimmy Choo heels.
GD: What are you top tips for red carpet dressing?
SJ: For me it's really important to make sure I have a team around me that I trust. Pauline Briscoe is my make-up artist - I've work with her on Xtra Factor and I really trust her. Kelly Rowland actually recommended her to me. I usually go for a red lip but I decided to go for a natural lip - it means you can do more with your eyes. I also had my hair done by a team at Charles Worthington - I had an old school Hollywood wave, which I loved. I also think it's extremely important to pick something to wear that you'll be comfortable in too. But of course making a statement is always important too.
GD: What were your highlights from the night?
SJ: Interviewing David Beckham was great. He's gorgeous and he's always so nice. He's always friendly and happy to talk to, which helps. I also got the honour of meeting Stephen Hawking and I had to take a picture. He was coming towards me and I told my producer that I had to get a picture with him - my team were laughing. I didn't want to spend the whole night taking selfies but with David and Stephen it was important to me. I also got to meet Stephen Hawking's daughter and she was really lovely. I was chatting to him and she would join in which was nice. When I was interviewing Benedict Cumberbatch I called him 'the thinking woman's crumpet' which was a bit awkward, but funny.
GD: What did you think of the fashion?
SJ: I loved what Keira Knightley was wearing, she looked great and hasa beautiful maternity style. She was wearing Giambattista Valli, the same designer as Rihanna's amazing Grammy outfit and although the dresses were very different in some ways they were similar. They both had small tops but a large skirt and I liked that look**. I also loved the way Keira wore a leather jacket. She told me her stylist had forbidden her from wearing on the red carpet but I really liked the contrast. Julianne Moore also looked absolutely incredible
**
**GD: Whose style are you most looking forward to seeing throughout this awards season? **
**SJ: **I was hoping to see Emma Stone but she wasn't there so I'm hoping to see her more in coming weeks. I think she's got a great look. I also really love Margot Robbie she's absolutely gorgeous. I read an endearing interview recently about her saying she didn't feel pretty when she was growing up and I thought 'that's insane she's absolutely gorgeous' but it just shows you everyone has their own insecurities. I'm also looking forward to seeing Reese Witherspoon at The Oscars too. She looked great at the BAFTAs - her role in The Wild is all hiking boots and checked shirts and then she turns up on the red carpet looking incredible. Felicity Jones has great style - I was sad she missed out on an award
GD: What has been your biggest red carpet mistake?
**SJ: **Oh I've probably had loads. Once for a premire I was going through a gothic-y phase and I wore black lipstick. If you're Kristen Stewart or someont it can look great, but I didn't. That look would only work for Halloween.
