The red carpet has been all rolled up and the A-list are staggering out of the after-parties, so now it's time for us to break down the 10 biggest talking points from the red carpet...
1. Best Use Of Jewels: Lupita Nyong’o
With more pearls on her custom Calvin Klein Collection gown than the entire granny population of West London own, Luptia Nyong’o was a walking, talking necklace. One flash of those pearly whites and we were sold.
2. Quickest Off Catwalk: Sienna Miller
With Sienna experiencing a clothing comeback, it's no surprise she nabbed a dress straight from New York Fashion Week. Wearing a black open flower macramé gown with bows and sequin embellishment from Peter Copping’s first collection for Oscar De La Renta, the boho babe had the red carpet wrapped up.
3. The Colour: Red vs. White
All together now… Ladies in reddddd. Rosamund Pike ended the red carpet season on a complete high in her Givenchy red gown with front split- claps to her! However the girls in white gave the ladies in red some stiff competition, Lupita Nyong’o and THE leading lady of the night, Julianne Moore in Chanel gave a lesson in how to work intricate detailing.
4. Best Tent: Solange Knowles
Did Solange pop down to Millets to get her Oscars outfit? Maybe she was popping on a jolly good camping holiday straight after the show and wanted to make sure she didn’t forget her tent so decided to just wear it instead?! Either way the slender singer is totally overwhelmed by the level of fabric on this number- a few less layers of material and a bit more flesh would have prevented this clothing car crash. Take note from Diane Kruger, Solange love, who also attempted a dress/jumpsuit hybrid but didn’t with a whole other level of sophistication.
5. Baby got back: Marion Cotillard
Trust magical Marion to show the a-listers what real style is all about! Wearing Christian Dior Couture, (I MEANNNN, DURRR) the French actress with more style in her little finger than Reece Witherspoon has in her entire body, nailed it from the front and then turned to reveal the party in the back. If you think this looks like a dinner napkin in a napkin ring then you are Reece Witherspoon.
** 6. The Prom Queen: Gwyneth Paltrow**
Looking like the smug girl who rigged the high school vote to be made prom queen, Gwyneth Paltrow failed to look pretty in pink. If this Ralph & Russo dress was a fragrance it would be one of those sickly sweet floral Febreze toilet air fresheners- overpowering in its bad taste.
7. Biggest Let Down: Emma Stone Moonlighting As Jane Fonda
Oh Emma Stone! After nailing every red carpet this award season- namely her jolly jumpsuit at the Golden Globes and directional tailoring at the SAGs- Emma Stone finished on a low. Did she raid Jane Fonda’s closet? Either way the colour was aging and this Elie Saab dress belongs on an art deco cladded extra in Downton Abbey not on the youthful Emma Stone.
8. Da Man: David Oyelowo
The boy wore burgundy Burberry and swept aside Eddie Redmayne in a navy number and Benedict Cumberbatch who was dressed like a penguin/waiter/Matthew McConaughey circa last year’s Oscars (delete as appropriate).
9. Bringing Sexy Back: Margot Robbie and J-LO
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR, JLO wore actual clothes. But of course all her trophies were up front, with one of the greatest clevages to ever grace the planet. Margot Robbie gave the sexy singer a run for her money in Saint Laurent and a Titanic esque necklace previously owned by Wallis Simpson. And that lob…
10. Fairytale Favourites: Keira Knightley and Chloe Moretz
Chloe Moretz transformed from a soft and light princess at the ceremony to a dark fairtayle vixen in Alexander McQueen for the Vanity Fair after-party. Meanwhile onto the best-dressed bump, Keira was a ray of light in an red carpet otherwise filled with basic dresses.
