Since her husband, Harvey Weinstein, was embroiled in a scandal of gargantuan proportions, Georgina Chapman has been absent from any red carpet event. She chose to stage a comeback of sorts, however, at the Met Gala.
As one of the designers behind Marchesa, Chapman used to have an A-list following of which most designers could only dream. When her husband was accused of sexual assault, harassment and even rape by multiple women, however, Chapman found that even her most loyal fans wanted to distance themselves from the name Marchesa.
Last year, Scarlett Johansson was heavily criticised by many for choosing to wear Marchesa to the Met Gala 2018, as the allegations against Weinstein loomed large. There were many others who pointed out that a woman should not be held responsible for her husband's heinous actions, particularly when Chapman maintains she had no idea about her husband's alleged behaviour. Last year, Chapman gave an extended interview to US Vogue, detailing just how her life had changed since accusations emerged against her husband.
While a few famous faces have worn Marchesa over the past few months, it was certainly a surprise to see Chapman at the very high profile Met Gala, posing on the pink carpet alongside actor Constance Wu, who wore a Marchesa gown.
