The 2019 Academy Awards are just hours away and one of the earliest red carpet arrivals has sparked major joy on Twitter: Marie Kondo.
Wearing a blush pink sequined gown by Jenny Packham, the star of Netflix’s Tidying Up With Marie Kondo delighted fans when she arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for her first-ever Oscars ceremony.
With jokes about Marie coming in to clean up the mess (this year’s ceremony notably has no host after Kevin Hart bowed out when his old anti-gay tweets resurfaced), taking out the trash and – of course – sparking joy, her appearance on the red carpet has become the first meme of the 2019 Oscars. Even the The Academy’s official Twitter got in on the act, writing, “Attention all #Oscars guests: Please keep the red carpet tidy. @MarieKondo has arrived and we're trying to make a good first impression.”
Marie Kondo aside, the red carpet has seen some stunning looks so far, with Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu looking like a true Disney Princess in her yellow tulle Versace dress. Amandla Stenberg, another first-time Oscars attendee, went for an ultra glamorous 1920s-style Miu Miu dress that we’d love to borrow for every Christmas party until the end of time.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Regina King – who starred in If Beale Street Could Talk – chose an angelic white Oscar de la Renta gown for her big night, while Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke sparkled in lilac Balmain and a new short brown bob haircut.
