Look Back At The Best Red Carpet Dresses Of 2014

Before we start a new year and dive head first into Awards Season, it's only right that we take a look back at some of the best red carpet looks from the past 12 months.

This was the year Lena Dunham went viral at the Emmys in her pink frothy Giambattista Valli shirt-meets-gown. It was also the year Rihanna brought #FreeThNipple to the red carpet. She went practically naked to the CFDA Awards, wearing an Adam Selman gown covered in 230,000 Swarovski crystals with a matching Swarovski headscarf. But not every look was quite so divisive.

This will be remembered as the year that we met and fell for Lupita Nyong'o. From the moment she hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes in a red caped Ralph Lauren gown, we were obsessed. Her awards season was textbook perfection, from the green strapless Christian Dior gown at the BAFTAs to the blue frothy Prada gown at the Oscars.

Blake Lively made the Cannes Film Festival this year. She started things off with a Chanel Couture mermaid-esque seafoam gown covered in iridescent sequins, which she paired a mint green shawl around her elbows. Then she wore a burgundy Gucci pleated chiffon gown with a deep slit and then an Old Hollywood monochrome Gucci gown.

Other highlights include Angelina Jolie co-ordinating with Brad Pitt at the BAFTAs in a black Saint Laurent t tuxedo. Cate Blanchett was also flawless at the Oscars in a nude tulle Giorgio Armani drenched in Swarvoski crystals and sequins.
