The 2017 awards season is well and truly under way, and tonight all eyes are on London as Brit and Hollywood A-listers grace the Royal Albert Hall for the biggest night in British film: The BAFTAs. Once described as ‘the British Oscars’ by Jennifer Lawrence, the BAFTAs ceremony is set to be a night of glamour, mesmerising gowns, and inspirational speeches. And for us Brits who can watch the red carpet circus and the night’s events unfold live, the anticipation is sky high.
Last year's ceremony saw the likes of Dakota Johnson and Cate Blanchett steal the show, with the former in a red Dior gown and the latter in an embellished Alexander McQueen gown.
This year though - while the the Golden Globes and the SAGs may have set the bar high for red carpet dressing - the stars shows no slowing when it came to pulling out the sartorial stops - even despite the icy weather conditions.
Of course, our perennial favourites did not disappoint this time around: Emma Stone topped even herself with a dress to end all dresses (a bejeweled Chanel Haute Couture gown to be precise), Thandie Newton wowed in a black silk Osman gown and Naomie Harris wore a Gucci masterpiece.
The boys scrubbed up well too: Eddie Redmayne looked ever so dapper (in a white tuxe), as did Dev Patel and Andrew Garfield who both wore Burberry.
And we couldn't contain our excitement when Kate Middleton arrived wearing an off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown...
So, without further ado, we have rounded up our favourite looks of the night...
Anya Taylor-Joy
For her first big red carpet experience, EE Rising Star nominee and star of Split Anya Taylor-Joy rose to the occasion in a Gucci blue tiered ruffle princess-esque gown with gold embellishment. She topped off the look with Amrapali earrings.
Emma Stone
When will Emma Stone not be a sartorial favourite? Just like her film La La Land, which bagged itself 11 BAFTA nominations - including Emma's nomination for Best Actress - her dress was something wondrous to behold. She upped the ante in a Chanel Haute Couture silver bejewled plunging gown with bejeweled trousers underneath (AKA a drouser) paired with Tiffany & Co. jewellery, and looked absolutely amazing.
Naomie Harris
Naomie Harris, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Moonlght, wore a Gucci pale pink and yellow ruffle gown with a dramatic floral embellishment.
Thandie Newton
Westworld star Thandie Newton looked utterly divine in a black silk strapless Osman gown.
Viola Davis
Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Fences, Viola Davis stunned on the red carpet in a Jenny Packham colbalt blue strapless gown. Like a true gent her husband Julius Tennon was by her side to keep her warm in the sub-zero temperatures.
Sophie Turner
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner wore a Louis Vuitton sequinned black and silver gown with plunging neckline and thigh-high leg split.
